A lovely Saturday afternoon in the Phoenix park was the site of one of the most rain soaked games in Sharks history. Only 6 Sharks showed up, with two starters focussing on baseball and two starters on IR. We started in relatively dry conditions against a depleted UCD squad, with Iain McGuinness filling in for Cormac Eklof at QB. We started brightly, scoring quickly and spreading the field, hitting every reciever. Paul Kelly and Brian Tyrrell both scored their first ever TD's in Sharks colours with Kevin Regan, Stuart Clarke and Paddy Coleman also added to the scoring.
Stuart finished the game at QB, scoring on every drive bar one, where he threw an interception which was returned for UCD's sole score. Iain McGuinness changed from passer to catcher with two scores in the second half and Stuart Clarke also returned an interception while on D. Final score: Dublin Sharks 44 UCD 6
The second game was scary in hindsight. We played our first ever game against ITC Chargers through a thunderstorm and it was later revealed that a young boy had been struck by lightning only a few miles away. The rain got the better of both teams as it finished in a 6-6 draw, both coming from defensive returns, with Stuart Clarke both throwing the pick and catching the interception for our tying score. Carlow are a good team and we hope to see more of them soon.
